About Stoli Chamoy Vodka

Stoli Chamoy Vodka is produced by Stoli Group – a Luxembourg based spirits company. Originally known as Stolichnaya Vodka the, brand originated in the Soviet Union in 1938. It has experienced a complex set of ownership disputes and political challenges over the years, and is currently produced in Latvia, separately from a Russian, state-owned brand with the same original name. In 2022, the company rebranded to Stoli Vodka in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which they oppose.

Their vodkas are made using wheat and rye, as well as artesian well water. It is distilled three times, and filtered using quartz sand, birch wood charcoal, and fine cloth. This particular bottle of Chamoy Vodka is flavored with Chamoy – a complex and savory Mexican sauce often used as a hot sauce.

My Tasting notes

I took a whiff of this vodka and it had a fruity aroma, with hints of warm, mild chili. There was not very much heat on the nose.

Small glencairn glass with clear liquid, sitting on a wooden table

The first sip was bit spicier than the aroma, though this was nicely balanced by the fruitiness of the plum notes. Each sip became a little bit spicier than the last, but was overall pretty nice to sip.

Cocktail

For my cocktail, I wanted to try one of the recipes from the official Stoli website that looked particularly refreshing. This one is a rickey variation, with a touch of pineapple juice for flavor and sweetness.

❖ 3oz soda water

❖ garnish: tajin rim, lime slice

  1. Prepare a highball glass with a tajin rim, and then fill the glass with ice.

  3. Gently stir to combine.
  4. Garnish with a slice of lime.
Tall glass with ice, layered yellow and clear liquid, and garnished with a brick red colored tajin spice rim and a lime wedge

My cocktail was very tasty. The spicy notes of the chamoy were nice and subtle, and the plum notes worked nicely with the pinneapple. The flavors were light against the soda water, and overall smooth and refreshing.

Bottom Line

RATING: 4/5

At the end of the day, I was pleasantly surprised with Stoli Chamoy Vodka. I admit, when I picked this up off the shelf, I wasn’t expecting it to do much more than provide a good laugh and some ABV. However, I actually found this flavored vodka to be pleasant, well-balanced, and reasonably smooth. If you’re looking for a budget flavored spirit with a bit of a kick, Stoli Chamoy provides a good value.

I really enjoyed my cocktail with this vodka, and I feel that it holds up pretty well against thin flavor mixers like soda water. If you see this in the store, don’t be afraid to try it out for yourself.

As always, drink responsibly.
