La Catrina Classic Margarita

La Catrina Classic Margarita is produced by La Catrina – a California based brand that produces various wine varietals as well as wine-based cocktails. Their vineyards are family owned, and each bottle features artwork based on La Calavera Catrina – a satirical figure often associated with Day of the Dead.
Although the brand is best known for their wines, they also offer a selection of ready-to-drink cocktail products, crafted under the guidance of mixologist Bob Stashak. This particular bottle of Classic Margarita uses a blue agave wine base, along with lime juice and natural flavors. It is sweetened with natural cane sugar.

I took a whiff of this margarita, and there was an interesting mix of wine and agave aromas. The fermentation scent really stuck out, as my nose was not accustomed to smelling agave spirits that aren’t distilled.
I took my first sip, and there was a clear fermented wine flavor. As I continued, notes of lime came out, giving the overall flavor a bit more freshness. I didn’t notice much agave in the flavor.
RATING: 3/5
Overall, this bottle of La Catrina Classic Margarita was palatable, but didn’t really wow me. It’s offered at a low price point, and I feel that you can taste the quality difference. Although I enjoyed it enough to continue making my way through the bottle, I think that its a very middle-of-the-road value for the price. It was simply hard to get excited about!
At the end of the day, this ready-to-drink margarita is a fine choice if you’re faced with a limited selection, but I don’t see myself picking up another bottle.
As always, drink responsibly.
