My Tasting notes

I took a whiff of this whipshot, and the initial aroma was very unpleasant, almost like fruity vomit. After a few sniffs, the peppermint notes began to come out. Overall, it smelled like a musty candy store.

I began to lick the top of my shot, and it was somewhat nice, with notes of fluffy peppermint. As I continued, my other licks and sips tasted a little more harsh. The flavor overall was like a mint flavored medicine. It was not quite as festive as I had hoped.

As a Topping

When prepping for this review, I was stuck with a dilemma – to cocktail or not to cocktail? After all, Whip Shots is kind of a pre-made cocktail already. Or alternatively, you could think of it as a garnish that is also alcoholic. However, I don’t consider it an ingredient, personally.

But at the end of the day, I would feel remiss if I didn’t use it as a topping, so I decided to go with a very simple coffee with milk and sugar, garnished with Whip Shots Peppermint.

On top of my coffee, I first was disappointed with the way the Whip Shots sprayed. As you can see in the photo, it did not create the beautiful swirls like regular whipped cream. I was extremely careful to follow the instructions on the tag to a T, which were quite detailed, but it simply did not come out right any of the times I tried it. Out of my attempts, the single shot in the sherry glass above was the best. But even then, the bottom ended up very liquidy.

As far as the flavor, it had the same medicinal quality as before, which did not suit my fancy.

One aspect that I was impressed with was its ability to stay on top of the drink for longer periods of time than regular whipped cream. It didn’t melt or dissolve into the other liquid at all.

Bottom Line

RATING: 2/5

Overall, I was pretty disappointed with this tube of Whip Shots Peppermint vodka-infused whipped cream. Though my expectations for the quality were admittedly not that high, Whip Shots somehow managed to provide flavor that was even worse than I was expecting. It really just tasted like minty medicine.

On top of that, I think that if a product like this needs to provide such detailed instructions for use, and following those instructions still doesn’t lead to consistent results, perhaps the product is not quite ready for market. Consumers shouldn’t need to “practice” in order to use it. I think it’s a sign that the development process was a bit rushed.

That said, I think it’s a fun idea, and I hope they improve and provide a more consistent experience in the future. For now, I’m not able to recommend Whip Shots Peppermint to others.

As always, drink responsibly.
