Quri Quinoa Peruvian Vodka is produced by QURI – a Lima, Peru based spirits brand launched in 2021 by husband and wife duo Jonathan Tourgee and Shirley Alencastre Melgarejo.
Their Quinoa is sourced from a family farm in Peru, milled, and then cooked and mashed in a large mash tun. It is then fermented using 5 different yeast strains, distilled twice in copper pot stills, and then distilled a third time in a column still. The water added to adjust the proof is sourced from Andean glacier water. The vodka is then drip filtered using activated carbon as well as volcanic stone.

The aroma of this vodka was surprisingly neutral, though there was some alcohol on the nose.
I took my first sip, and it was fairly sweet with notes of vanilla. At first, there was quite a bit of heat, but this lessened with each sip. Flavor-wise, the quinoa base tasted more similar to other grains then I expected. Though it tasted fine, it didn’t feel particularly unique.
Inside of a cocktail, I couldn’t really taste the vodka much at all. The drink overall was very tart from the cranberry, and could have used some simple syrup to balance it out. Perhaps this was because I used real, 100% cranberry juice instead of the typical Ocean Spray.
A few days later, I also tried out Quri in a vodka martini, and it was not my favorite martini experience. The drink felt very strong on my tongue, to the point that I winced like I would wince if I had burned my tongue on a hot coffee. The quinoa grain flavor was also a little too much for my personal taste inside of the vodka martini.
RATING: 2/5
I somewhat enjoyed this bottle of Quri Quinoa Peruvian Vodka, but was underwhelmed at the same time. As someone who is sensitive to vodka flavor, I was hoping the quinoa would provide something unique and perhaps more favorable to my palate. However, the flavor felt fairly standard and middle of the road. Still, it is useful for high volume cocktails, as it blends in nicely to the flavors of the mixers. For something made with responsibly sourced ingredients, the price is not too bad at all. It just didn’t suit my fancy on its own, or in low volume cocktails.
Unfortunately, in the time between me purchasing this bottle and actually getting around to reviewing it, it seems that Quri may have gone out of business. Though I wasn’t able to verify this for certain, some internet results do seem to point towards it. However, I still wanted to move forwards with reviewing it, in case they are able to begin operations again. For now, it’s hard to really recommend something that may not be available for long.
As always, drink responsibly.
