If you follow the blog, you know that it’s become a bit of a tradition of mine to review a pumpkin spice spirit each year. And don’t worry – I won’t rest until I’ve tried them all! This year, I was adamant that I wanted to try a pumpkin spice liqueur or cordial that was not creamy. Though the non-cream ones are a bit trickier to get your hands on, I personally prefer them, as they are more versatile. This year, I chose Vapor Distillery Pumpkin King Cordial. This cordial is created by Boulder Spirits – a small, Colorado-based craft spirits producer. This particular bottle of Pumpkin King Cordial is Gin-based, and infused for 1 month with spice […]
Naranja Licor de Naranja Orange Liqueur is produced by La Madrileña, a distillery in Tototlan, Jalisco. First distilled in 1933, this product began as Controy – a now famous Mexican orange liqueur modeled after Cointreau. Though it used to only be available in Mexico, the liqueur became available in the U.S. as Naranja in 2013. The name was changed for legal reasons, but only in the U.S. market. Although the true origin of the Margarita cocktail is hotly debated, some claim that the first Margarita included Controy, which the brand has greatly emphasized in their advertising. It is made with a neutral cane spirit base. Although they are […]
Midori Melon Liqueur was created by Suntory – a Japan-based spirits and soft drinks company. They produce their products in collaboration with several international production facilities. This particular bottle was produced by Fielding & Jones, LTD in Chicago. The original melon liqueur was created by Shinjiro Torii, and released in Japan under a different product name in 1964. It is made using two different varieties of rare Japanese muskmelon. The distinctive bright green coloring is artificially added, as the melon insides are actually orange. In 1978, the melon liqueur was released in the U.S. as Midori Melon Liqueur. The recipe was updated […]
Di Amore Amaretto is produced by Barton Distilling Company – a Kentucky based spirits company owned by Sazerac. Although many retailers list “Italy” as Di Amore‘s country of origin, I could not find definitive evidence of where it was made. Funnily enough, Sazerac does not seem to be publicly associated with any Italian distilleries, nor does Barton 1792 Distillery seem to publicly claim the brand. This particular bottle of Amaretto Liqueur is produced using crushed essence of apricot. It is bottled at 42 proof. BOTTLE SPECS ❖ ABV: 21% ❖ Distillery: Undisclosed ❖ Aging: N/A ❖ Price Point: low price MY TASTING NOTES The nose notes of […]
Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur is produced by Luxardo – an Italy-based spirits producer originally founded in Zara, Dalmatia in 1821. They produce a variety of spirits including liqueurs, aperitifs, and more. After World War II left much of Zara in ruins, the distillery was rebuilt in Torreglia, Italy in 1947. A family-owned company each step of the way, it is now being run by the seventh generation of Luxardos. This particular bottle of Maraschino liqueur is modeled after a Dalmatian liqueur called rosolio maraschino, which was made in convents and monasteries as early as the medieval period. Luxardo Maraschino is made from marasca […]
