Bulleit Rye Whiskey

It feels like I see a Bulleit Frontier Whiskey bottle in every bar I visit, so it immediately came to mind when I was looking for a new whiskey to try. And, since I’ve also been looking to gain more experience with rye whiskey, now seemed like a great time to check out Bulleit Rye. Bulleit is a relatively new American whiskey company that was founded in 1987 by Tom Bulleit. Ownership of the brand has changed hands a few times, but it’s currently owned by International spirit company, Diageo. I was surprised at the lack of information about the brand history or the founder on the official Bulleit website, but it’s probably because of […]

Rounded bottle of Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur sitting on a wooden table

Chambord Liqueur

Chambord Liqueur is produced at La Sistiere Château in the Loire Valley region of France. Although this liqueur is modeled after a raspberry liqueur that was popular in the region during the late 1600’s, the Chambord brand was only founded in 1982. It is currently owned by Brown-Forman, an American spirits company. The production process to make this liqueur involves three over-arching steps. First, the juices are extracted from the blackberries, raspberries, and blackcurrants. These juices then go through a 4-week infusion process where they are mixed together with french spirits. Step 2 involves a second infusion – this time for two […]

El Silencio Mezcal

While mezcal might not be ubiquitous like tequila, I’ve recently been noticing a larger selection of bottles in a variety of stores. And if you’re looking for an introduction to this uniquely flavored spirit, El Silencio Mezcal could be a good option. Mezcal is the name for spirits produced in Mexico using agave plants. This might sound oddly similar to tequila, but that’s because tequila is technically a type of mezcal. However, tequila is only made from blue agave while mezcal can use one of fifty different agave plants. El Silencio uses the heart (piñas) of espadín agave plants which are then roasted to produce a distinct smokey […]

Clément Rhum Agricole Blanc

Clément Rhum Agricole Blanc is produced by Habitation Clément, a historic distillery and estate in Le François, Martinique. Purchased from a struggling sugar plantation in 1887, Habitation Clément was transformed into a legacy by Homere Clément, nicknamed the “Father of Rhum Agricole”. In 1989, distillation was moved to local distillery Distillerie du Simon, which holds the Creole Column Stills from Habitation […]

Tall, clear bottle filled with light brown liquid with a rectangular lable with an illustration of a coastline

10th Street California Coast Whisky

Even though I’ve tried dozens of American whiskies, not many are from distilleries outside of Kentucky and Tennessee. But, the number of distilleries is increasing as the general popularity of whisky continues to grow, and I’m excited to check out some bottles from my home state of California. And luckily, my friend had a similar idea when he gifted me this bottle of 10th Street California Coast Whisky from the San Jose based distillery, 10th Street Distillery. After completing a whisky apprenticeship in the Islay region of Scotland, engineer Virag Saksena, along with chemical engineer and old college roommate Vishal Gauri, wanted bring […]
