About Di Amore Amaretto

Di Amore Amaretto is produced by Barton Distilling Company – a Kentucky based spirits company owned by Sazerac. Although many retailers list “Italy” as Di Amore‘s country of origin, I could not find definitive evidence of where it was made. Funnily enough, Sazerac does not seem to be publicly associated with any Italian distilleries, nor does Barton 1792 Distillery seem to publicly claim the brand.

This particular bottle of Amaretto Liqueur is produced using crushed essence of apricot. It is bottled at 42 proof.

My Tasting notes

The nose notes of this Amaretto liqueur were sweet & smooth, with noticeable cherry with that classic nutty Amaretto scent. After several whiffs, soft notes of vanilla were also present.

I took my first sip, and it was sour and striking. In the finish and subsequent sips, the heavy almond notes were the primary flavor. The familiar nuttiness reminded me of eating a sundae topped with chopped almonds. I could almost imagine the texture of the nut – peel and all!

Around my fifth sip, I began to taste notes of cough syrup.


Amaretto Coffee

❖ 1.5oz Amaretto

❖ 8oz fresh coffee

❖ garnish: whipped cream, cinnamon powder

  1. brew coffee according to your preferred method, and pour 8oz into a mug or heat-resistant glass.
  2. Add in the Amaretto liqueur.
  3. Top with whipped cream, and gently sprinkle some cinnamon powder over it.

Inside of this cocktail, I found this Amaretto to be a bit unimpressive. Although I often use cream and sugar in my regular coffee, I do enjoy it black as well, so I was surprised at the extent to which I was wishing for sweetness in this drink. The liqueur simply wasn’t doing much of anything at all as far as flavor, interest, or balance. Towards the end of my drink, I did pick out slight nutty notes, but they were hard to notice.

Bottom Line


At the end of the day, I was very underwhelmed by Di Amore Amaretto. On the one hand, I feel that we can’t expect a liqueur this inexpensive to live up to the expectations of a higher priced item. However, I also don’t feel like this liqueur has very much going for it to set it apart – even amongst other low-priced spirits.

Cough syrup flavor notes are never a value-add. And, while the almond notes were somewhat nice, they did not go very far inside a cocktail. What’s more, it’s always a turn-off for me as a consumer when production information about a spirit is hidden or contradictory. All in all, I don’t think I would recommend Di Amore Amaretto to a friend.
