JAJA Blanco Tequila
About JAJA Blanco Tequila
JAJA Blanco Tequila is created by JAJA Spirits – a Las Vegas, Nevada based brand who works with tequila producers in Jalisco. First launched in 2018, it was founded by Elliot Tebele, Maurice Tebele, and Martin Hoffstein. As a brand, their aim is to create a tequila that is both fun and high quality, rather than one or the other.
Their tequila is created under the direction of master distiller Marco Anguiano. They use 100% Blue Agave sourced from Jalisco that is grown for 8 years prior to harvesting. It is cooked for about 32-40 hours, rested for 8 hours, and then fermented with proprietary yeast for 72 hours. It is double distilled in copper stills, and then aired before bottling.
Although the brand works with a few different distilleries, this particular bottle of Blanco Tequila is produced at Casa Cuervo.

My Tasting notes
The aroma of this tequila was sweet and smooth, with clear agave notes. After I started sipping, vanilla notes also came out on the nose.

My first sip had a light flavor, with a bit of bite. As I continued, strong vanilla notes began to come out. The flavor overall started out sweet, but slowly got more musty with each sip. The bite of the alcohol was not horrible, but still consistent enough to affect the sipping experience.
Cocktail
For my cocktail, I wanted to make a simple, tasty cocktail that is trending right now called the Batanga. The recipe was created by Don Javier Delgado Corona, who runs a cantina in Tequila, Mexico called La Capilla. The ingredients aren’t typically measured, but I decided to measure out 2oz of tequila instead of eyeballing it. If you want to eyeball it, about half of the glass should be filled after step 3.
Batanga
❖ 2oz tequila
❖ juice of 1 lime
❖ Mexican Coca Cola, to top
❖ coarse salt (for rim)
- wet the rim of a highball glass with a lime wedge, and create a salt rim
- add lots of ice
- add the lime juice and tequila
- top with Coca Cola
- gently stir with the knife you used to cut the limes

Inside of a cocktail, I found JAJA Blanco to be adequate. It was very smooth against the cola, though the flavor notes more or less got lost.
Bottom Line
RATING: 1/5
Overall, I was unimpressed with JAJA Blanco Tequila. Although I feel it’s perfectly acceptable as a mixer, I think that it’s overpriced for the quality. In such a crowded market, it’s difficult to find any reasons to recommend this bottle over similarly priced blanco tequilas. It simply doesn’t distinguish itself from cheaper brands.
As a consumer, I was also a little turned off by the interviews and marketing for this product, which focus more on the business achievements and social media image of the brand (which sometimes uses stolen images), and less on the actual product inside the bottle. While I support the idea of making tequila tasting less serious and more fun, I don’t feel that seeing them use words like “hyper-ethnic” in interviews to throw shade at other brands is particularly fun. And despite JAJA talking a big game about being anti-pretentious, I can’t think of many things more pretentious than claiming to be “disrupting” an industry just because you’ve slapped a colorful label on a fairly standard bottom to mid shelf product. It all just gave me the ick.
I plan to avoid buying anything from JAJA ever again, and you may want to consider doing the same.
As always, drink responsibly.
