Tall bottle of Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur sitting on a wooden table, with a mixed white and wooden background

Frangelico

Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur is produced in Canales, a city in the Piedmont region of Italy. Though the brand is currently owned by the Italian company Gruppo Campari, the production of Frangelico has a much longer history dating back over 300 years. It was originally distilled by monks living in the region, and is even named after a particular hermit monk known as Fra’ Angelico. These origins are reflected in the unique bottle shape which resembles a friar’s robes.

The brand seems to pride itself on the quality of hazelnuts in the region, which are the basis of the liqueur’s flavor. According to the official Frangelico website, […]

Michter’s American Whiskey

Since the laws about bourbon classification are so strict, many distilleries create different expressions to experiment with flavors and sell new products. One of the oldest distilleries in America did this when creating their recent product, Michter’s American Whiskey.

Michter’s legacy begins in Pennsylvania in 1753, when a mennonite farmer named John Shenk first began distilling rye whiskey. It was sold under the name Shenk’s until the the distillery was sold to Abraham Bomberger and the name changed to Bomberger’s.

Over the next century, the distillery would survive prohibition and many owner changes until then-owner, Lou Forman, came […]

Bottle of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Spice Cream Liqueur sitting on a wooden table, in front of a mixed white and wood background

Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Liqueur

If you have a Trader Joe’s supermarket in your area, you know that their specialty and seasonal products often have a bit of a cult following. I must admit, I’m often guilty of popping cutesy Trader Joe’s brand products into my cart “just to try it”. On other days, I have better self-control – which is why I actually haven’t tried Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Cream Liqueur until now, despite it being available […]

Brough Brothers Bourbon

Even with hundreds of years of bourbon distilling history in Kentucky, there hasn’t been an African-American owned distillery until Brough Brothers opened in 2019. After working in spirit distribution overseas, Victor Yarbrough decided to start a bourbon distillery with his two brothers, Bryson and Chris. They chose west end Louisville, Kentucky as the location for the distillery, as it’s where they grew up and they wanted to support the local community. Brough Brothers currently only produce this bourbon, but are looking to expand to gin and vodka in the future. The bottle design also celebrates Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to the […]

Bottle of clear-colored Los Vecinos del Campo Mezcal sitting on a wooden table, in front of a mixed white and wooden background

Los Vecinos del Campo Mezcal Espadín

Los Vecinos del Campo Mezcal Espadin is produced by Mezcal Chichicapam, a group of local Mezcal-producing families in Oaxaca, Mexico. As a brand, however, Los Vecinos del Campo is considered a collaboration between Casa San Matías and Sazerac, who seem to take on the leg work of marketing and distributing their artisanal Mezcals. Overall, they seem to take great pride in the community spirit and dedication to […]
