About Mr Stacks Triple Sec

Mr. Stacks Triple Sec is produced by Mister Stacks Specialties Company ā€“ a Princeton, Minnesota based spirits company.

Unfortunately, public information about this brand and their production process is very lacking. However, they do offer a wide variety of liqueur and schnapps products, including this bottle of Triple Sec orange liqueur.

My Tasting notes

The aroma of this orange liqueur had an airy and bright quality, with bitter orange notes reminiscent of dramamine.

Small glencairn glass partway filled with clear liquid, sitting on a wooden table

I took my first sip, and it was overall not very smooth. There was a bright, twinkling quality to the mouthfeel, which was also slightly thick. The orange notes were a bit more harsh and bitter than average. Still, it was palatable, and more or less what I expected it to be for the price point.

Cocktail

For my cocktail, I wanted to choose a drink that has a relatively high proportion of triple sec in it compared to other cocktails. I realized that the classic White Lady cocktail fits that bill – and is also one that I haven’t personally tried yet. It normally includes egg whites, but I choose to create a vegan version using aquafaba instead.

Yield: 1 drink

Vegan White Lady

Coupe glass filled with off-white yellow liquid and white foam at the top, sitting on a wooden table

Ingredients

  • 1.5oz dry gin
  • 1oz orange liqueur
  • 3/4oz lemon juice
  • 1/2oz aquafaba

Instructions

  1. Add the ingredients into the larger shaker tin, without ice
  2. Seal the shaker, and dry shake (no ice) for 10 seconds.
  3. Add ice (preferably 1 large block) to the shaker, and shake the mixture until chilled.
  4. Strain the mixture into a glass.

Inside of a cocktail, this triple sec made for a pretty disappointing drink. It was not able to balance out the bitter herb notes of the gin at all, and the aquafaba flavor also came out a little too strong. The end result simply did not taste very good.

Bottom Line

RATING: 2/5

At the end of the day, this bottle of Mr Stacks Triple Sec was pretty disappointing. Although I was not expecting a premium product by any means, I at least thought it would contain enough added sugar to maintain some sort of sweet balance in a cocktail. I think even some other liqueurs from this brand do a better job at balancing.

If you have major budget constraints, you might be able to utilize this orange liqueur in drinks that contain very sweet mixers. However, I don’t think it’s a suitable option for low volume cocktails at all. As far as the low price point goes, Mr Stacks simply doesn’t hold a candle to something like Bols Triple Sec, which is also widely available. At this time, I cannot recommend this bottle.

As always, drink responsibly.
