Diplomático Planas Aged White Rum

Diplomático Planas Aged White Rum is produced by Destilerías Unidas S. A. – a family-owned company and distillery based in Venezuela. It’s a brand that I already have a fondness for, having reviewed their Reserva Exclusiva Rum a little over a year ago and giving it a good rating. That’s why I was so excited to receive this bottle of their Aged White Rum as a gift over the holiday season. Each of their rums are “field to bottle”, which basically means that Diplomático handles all the steps of production. The production process varies a little depending on which rum variety is being made. This particular bottle of Aged White Rum is a […]

Trader Joe’s Rum of the Gods

After having a surprisingly positive experience earlier this year with Trader Joe’s Small Batch Vodka, I started to pay more attention to the in-store liquor section. While they offer a handful of options, I was particularly interested in Trader Joe’s Rum of the Gods, as I’ve recently been exploring mixing spirits. Rum of the Gods is an affordable white rum made from cane sugar. It is initially distilled in Barbados, and then transported in bulk to a bottling plant in Wisconsin. BOTTLE SPECS ❖ Spirit: White Rum ❖ Distillery: Product of Barbados. Imported and bottled by Minhas Micro Distillery in Monroe, Wisconson. ❖ ABV: 40% (80 Proof) […]

Bacardi Superior

My partner and I recently had a craving for mojitos and daiquiris, so it was definitely time for us to pick up a new bottle of rum. Since white rum is ideal for cocktails due to its lack of color and lighter flavor profile, I thought it would be a good opportunity to purchase one of the most affordable and widely available options: Bacardi Superior White Rum. While Bacardi is currently produced in various locations around the world, it was initially established in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardi Masso in Santiago De Cuba. The iconic bat logo was created around this time after Don’s wife noticed a colony of fruit bats living in the rafters […]

Havana Club Rum

Now that spring is here and the weather is starting to warm up, I’ve been craving some refreshing rum cocktails. I’ve only tried a few white rums, so I was excited to check out something new, and the simple black and white label of Havana Club Puerto Rican Rum caught my eye immediately. Although now produced in Puerto Rico by the Bacardi company, Havana Club was first distilled in Cuba by José Arechabala in the 1860’s. The Arechabala Family produced the rum until the Cuban Revolution in the 1960’s, and the new government nationalized rum production. Arechabala soon left cuba for the United States. Cuba continued selling rum with the […]
