Aviation Gin

Maybe I was a bit too influenced by Ryan Reynolds’ handsome face, because I was pretty eager to try Aviation Gin. But, I was also looking to try some affordable American gin, so maybe that’s not a bad thing. Aviation Gin was first created by Portland, Oregon based House Spirts in in the mid 2000’s. Years of growth drew attention from larger spirit companies and celebrities, and the Davos Group and actor Ryan Reynolds bought the brand with House Spirts continuing to distill the gin in their facilities. Aviation was bought a second time by Diageo in 2020 with Ryan Reynolds retaining an ownership interest. Aviation is made with seven […]

These botanicals include california juniper, yerba santa, damiana, kelp, californian hops, white sage, and california […]

Blue Bottle with white writing on a light brown table with white background

Gray Whale Gin

I hate to admit it but I bought my first bottle of Gray Whale Gin solely because of the gorgeous bottle. The ocean blue with the simple white lettering stood out from the rest of the traditional looking bottles on the store shelf and I was immediately sold. But as I learned more about the people behind this gin, their inspiration for the flavor profile and their message of environmental conservation, I felt better about making the impulse purchase.

Gray Whale Gin is made by Golden State Distillery in Sebastopol, California. Marsh and Jan Mokhtari started the distillery in 2016 with intentions of creating a spirit that celebrates the […]
