About Barr Hill Gin

Barr Hill Gin is produced by Caledonia Spirits – a Montpelier, Vermont based spirits company. They take pride in the fact that they are independent and distiller-owned, and aim to bring an agricultural focus to their spirits production. The Barr Hill brand includes their gin and vodka lineup, which are made with regional raw honey.

Each of their spirits are made in small batches using custom stills. This particular bottle of Barr Hill Gin uses wild juniper, and is distilled once before being finished with the honey.

My Tasting notes

The nose notes of this gin were citrus-forward, with a fresh and airy feel. The juniper notes were slightly bitter, but gentle.

As I sipped this gin, it was tingly and bitter in the front, followed by clear, sweet honey notes. There weren’t any other noticeable flavor notes, but the honey was quite nice. Between sips, the heat lingered on the roof of my mouth.

Inside of a cocktail, this gin was smooth and mellow. The honey notes added a gentleness and slight sweetness to the overall mix, to balance out the bitter grapefruit. Against mixers, slight juniper notes came out as well. I really enjoyed and savored this drink.

Bottom Line

RATING: 4/5

Overall, I really enjoyed this bottle of Barr Hill Gin. Although the flavors were not super complex, the honey and juniper notes were enjoyable and made for a nice and balanced cocktail.

I think it makes a solid mixing gin, especially if you prefer gins that are clean and straightforward in flavor. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

In addition, I feel good about supporting this company, as they are distiller-owned, and clearly craft this product with love and care. I look forward to trying out some of their other spirit offerings.

As always, drink responsibly.
