Kasama Small Batch Rum is produced by Kasama Rum – a Phillipines based spirits brand that currently focuses on one expression of small batch aged rum. As a brand, Kasama aims to bring a different energy and flavor to the rum category, bringing a fun and laid-back feel to their product and marketing.
Their rum is made using cane juice from the noble variety of sugar cane, which is harvested locally and freshly pressed. It is distilled in a column still in the Phillippines, and aged for 7 years in American Oak barrels, before being transported to Poland for blending and bottling.
❖ ABV: 40%
❖ Distillery: undisclosed (The Phillipines)
❖ Aging: 7 years
❖ Price Point: lower moderate
The aroma of this rum was sweet and fruity, reminding me of the scent of pineapple. After several sniffs, there were also notes of molasses in the background. There was an overall airy quality to the heat of the alcohol.
I took a sip, and it was fairly bitter and harsh. As I continued, the harshness remained a bit distracting, though the actual rum flavor was nice and light.
❖ 2oz rum
❖ 4oz iced tea
❖ 4oz pineapple juice

Inside of a cocktail, this rum was smooth and unassuming. The flavors of the drink were overall nicely balanced, although I should note that the iced tea I used was unsweetened. I believe in most cases the Punyeta cocktail uses sweetened iced tea. I didn’t notice any flavor notes from the rum against the strong pineapple juice flavor.
RATING: 2/5
At the end of the day, I found this rum to be palatable, but pretty boring. There was simply nothing interesting about the flavor, which was light and not even noticeable against mixers. I had high hopes for this bottle as an affordable mixing rum, but was ultimately disappointed.
For an aged rum, it simply was too harsh to sip, and I feel the quality should be priced lower. I also suspect it has a lot of added sugar, due to the way it makes my head feel after drinking it. Overall, I get the sense that Kasama puts more thought and effort into the marketing and label design of their product, and not so much effort into the crafting of the rum itself. I’m not able to recommend this bottle of Kasama Small Batch Rum at this time.
As always, drink responsibly.
