Knob Creek Rye

I was recently in the mood for some classic whiskey cocktails, and realized it’s been a while since I tried a new rye whiskey. And, after having a generally pleasant experience with their bourbon, I was eager to checkout Knob Creek Rye. Knob Creek Rye is bottled at 100 proof after being aged for seven years, making it the youngest in Knob Creek’s line of whiskies. Although it’s a rye whiskey, its high corn mash bill adds notes commonly associated with bourbon. BOTTLE SPECS ❖ Spirit: Rye Whiskey ❖ Distillery: James B Beam Distilling Co. ❖ ABV: 50% (100 Proof) ❖ Aged for Seven Years ❖ Moderate Price TASTING NOTES ❖ Color: Amber ❖ Nose: […]

Exclave Rye Whiskey

Although I made an effort to explore rye whiskey last year and there are plenty of other spirits I still want to try, rye is too good in cocktails for me to stop looking for new bottles to check out. And lucky for me, my parents gifted me this bottle of Exclave Rye Whiskey during the holidays. Exclave spirits is a New Orleans, Louisiana based brand that was created to celebrate the contribution of the black community to the history of spirits. This brand, produced and bottled by River basin Spirits, is only a few years old, but was awarded double gold by the American Distilling Institute. BOTTLE SPECS ❖ Spirit: Rye Whiskey ❖ Distillery: […]

Hudson Whiskey NY Do the Rye thing

I think this is the first time I’ve seen a label that makes me think of public transportation. But this simple and striking design successfully drew me in and made me excited to try Do the Rye Thing from Hudson Whisky NY.

Whiskey hadn’t been distilled in New York since prohibition until Ralph Erenzo decided to establish a distillery in 2003. A gristmill sitting on 36 acres of land in the Hudson River Valley became what is now Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery. To lean into their New York pride, Hudson sources their grains from local farms. Hudson are now fully owned by the Scottish company, William Grant & Sons. BOTTLE SPECS ❖ Spirit: […]

Riverboat Rye Whiskey

In an effort to try more whiskies besides scotch and bourbon, I used my latest trip to Total Wine to pick up some new bottles, including this bottle of Riverboat Rye Whiskey. There was surprisingly little information about the distillery behind Riverboat Rye, or the whiskey itself. I could only find a few retail links, but no official website or anything. But luckily, there was a decent amount of information both stated and implied on the bottle label. Riverboat is a straight rye whiskey, so it is aged at least 2 years in new, charred oak barrels, and contains at least 51% rye grain in the mash bill. The bottle states the spirit is […]

Bulleit Rye Whiskey

It feels like I see a Bulleit Frontier Whiskey bottle in every bar I visit, so it immediately came to mind when I was looking for a new whiskey to try. And, since I’ve also been looking to gain more experience with rye whiskey, now seemed like a great time to check out Bulleit Rye. Bulleit is a relatively new American whiskey company that was founded in 1987 by Tom Bulleit. Ownership of the brand has changed hands a few times, but it’s currently owned by International spirit company, Diageo. I was surprised at the lack of information about the brand history or the founder on the official Bulleit website, but it’s probably because of […]
