Shieldaig Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is produced by William Maxwell & Co, a Scotland based brand owned by family-owned parent company Ian MacLeod Distillers.
Unfortunately, not many details are disclosed about the production of their Shieldaig whiskies. This particular bottle of Highland Single Malt Scotch is advertised as being produced on an island off of the Highland coast. The aging time is not specified.
❖ ABV: 40%

❖ Price Point: low price
The nose notes of this scotch were gentle and vaguely fruity. Overall, there was not much heat at all on the nose.
I took my first sip, and the alcohol was a bit harsh on my tongue and throat. It took several sips before I could detect any flavor notes at all through the bite. When I finally did, there was not much going on except a nondescript grain flavor. I found the flavor to be very unpleasant.
❖ 2oz Scotch whisky
❖1.5oz half & half
❖ 3 barspoons of honey
garnish: grated nutmeg
Inside of a cocktail, I was very disappointed in this whisky. For a split second, the cream notes came through nice and smooth, but this quickly dissipated into harsh grain notes that completely ruined the mix. As I choked down the rest of my drink, I was not having a good time.
RATING: 1/5
At the end of the day, I was extremely disappointed in this bottle of Shieldaig Single Malt Scotch. Even for the low price point, I simply don’t think the flavor had any redeeming qualities, and it isn’t suitable even as a mixing spirit.
As far as flavor notes, there wasn’t much of anything interesting going on. It was one note, and quite disgusting. I can’t recommend it at this time.
As always, drink responsibly.
