Now that the weather’s finally starting to warm up, It’s finally time to make some refreshing tequila cocktails. The first bottle that caught my eye was the affordable Sauza Hacienda Tequila Silver. Emmeline has previously reviewed a product from Casa Sauza, Sauza 100 Años, so more history on the brand can be found there. Sauza Hacienda is produced using a gentle extraction method. This is when the agave juices are cooked only after being extracted from the pina. Like all of their other tequila, Sauza Hacienda is produced in La Perseverancia Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. BOTTLE SPECS ❖ Spirit: Tequila Silver ❖ Distillery: La Perseverancia […]
While there are thousands of whiskies from all over the world, I don’t recall ever encountering one from Mexico. However, given the increasing demand for whiskey, distilleries are starting to diversify. Adictivo Tequila is a recent example, and has recently launched Adictivo Whiskey. Adictivo Whiskey is a small-batch single malt whiskey produced and bottled by Vitro Tequilera in Jalisco, Mexico. This spirit is aged for 5 years in American Oak casks, and finished in Adictivo tequila casks. BOTTLE SPECS❖ Spirit: Small Batch Whiskey from Mexico ❖ Distillery: Produced and Bottled by Vitro Tequilera ❖ ABV: 40% (80 Proof) ❖ Aged 5 Years […]
Since my home state of California isn’t typically known as a major whiskey producer, I always get excited when I come across a new California based distillery like Venus Spirits. And, it’s even better when it’s not too far from where I currently live! And, although they offer a wide variety of spirits, I was most excited to try this bottle of Wayward Single Malt Whiskey. After many years in the beer and organic food industries, Sean Venus was inspired to build Venus Spirits after falling in love with whiskey. The distillery first opened in in Santa Cruz, California in 2015 and offers many spirits that include gin, agave-based spirits […]
While I’ve sampled a few sakes over the years (Emmeline and I even shared a sake flight the last time we had sushi), I’ve never actually owned a bottle myself. I was always too overwhelmed by the number of brands and styles. Thankfully, I came out of the holiday season with this bottle of Gekkeikan Black & Gold Sake, so I don’t have to stress anymore, and can finally start my sake journey. The Gekkeikan brand can be traced all the way back to 1637, when Jiemon Okura first established a sake brewery in Fushima, a town near Kyoto. The Okura family continued to operate the brewery and expand the brand until it was officially renamed […]
My journey through the Scotch whisky regions continues! This time, I’m trying a bottle from a northeast region of the Scottish highlands called Speyside. The region is well known for single malt scotch with sweet and fruity flavors. It’s been far too many years since my last experience with a Speyside Scotch, so I thought a good place to start would be the reasonably affordable Glencullen 10 Year Single Malt. BOTTLE SPECS ❖ Spirit: Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky ❖ Distillery: Distilled, Matured and Bottled in Scotland and Imported my County Line Distillers, Louisville, KY. ❖ ABV: 40% (80 Proof) ❖ Aged 10 Years ❖ Low Price TASTING […]
